Why I Volunteer with United Way of Sumner County
At United Way of Sumner County, we believe in the power of local voices to inspire action and build community. In this month’s Volunteer Voices feature, we’re honored to share the words of Sherri Ferguson, a dedicated volunteer whose commitment to service reflects the very heart of our mission.
“I volunteer for the United Way of Sumner County because I believe in strengthening our local community and giving back in a meaningful way. One of the most impactful parts of my involvement has been serving on the Allocations Committee. This role has given me a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the wide range of programs United Way supports—and the incredible difference they make in people’s lives.
Each year, I hear heartwarming stories from the organizations we fund—stories of children getting the school supplies they need, families overcoming hardship, and seniors receiving the care and companionship they deserve. These real-life examples remind me why this work matters. It’s not just about dollars and data—it’s about hope, dignity, and second chances.
Being part of something that directly helps our neighbors thrive is deeply fulfilling, and it motivates me to continue giving my time and energy to this amazing cause.”
Sherri’s story is a powerful reminder that volunteers don’t just give time—they give hope. Stay tuned each month as we continue to lift up the voices of those who make our work possible.
