At United Way of Sumner County, we believe that every volunteer has a story worth sharing. That’s why we’re introducing Volunteer Voices, a new monthly feature highlighting the "why" behind our volunteers' dedication to our mission.

This month, Brian Sampedro, a UWSC board member and Store Manager at Publix Supermarkets, shares what inspires him to give back through United Way:

“I chose to volunteer for the United Way due to personally witnessing the contribution to the communities they serve. Being part of a community, I feel, is my responsibility to share the abilities I possess to make an impact to those in need. Working for Publix Supermarkets has taught me how to be a servant leader, and to be a responsible citizen in the community I serve.

Volunteering has really opened my eyes to the world you don't normally see. Participating at local events and with partner agencies within the community has given me a sense of purpose. Though one can only do so much, your worth is nothing if you can't give something. After events I have participated in, I have always shared my experiences with others, which more often than not gains more interest as well as more hearts and minds for the cause.”

Brian’s perspective reflects the shared belief that we all have something to give. Whether it’s time, skills, or inspiring others to take action, every contribution helps build stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.

Stay tuned each month as we highlight more volunteers and their "why." If you’d like to join our community of changemakers, click the button below to get involved.
