United Way is blessed to have loyal volunteers who generously give their time and talents to help improve the lives of others. One of those amazing volunteers is Theresa Dowell-Fuqua. During her 32-year career with the Sumner County school system, Theresa served as an elementary assistant principal before retiring in June 2020. The next year, United Way of Sumner County asked Theresa to serve as a volunteer on one of our allocations panels which helps decide how money raised by UWSC is distributed among our funded partners. “After being accepted to allocations, I was asked, nominated and elected to be a (UWSC) board member. From my initial involvement, I learned how much United Way helps families in our community,” Theresa said. “Many of those I served while I worked in the school system. I love getting to know the people and agencies that serve our community.” She also chairs UWSC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. In addition to all of that, she helps with clerical work in the office, picks up coats for our Winter Care Drive, solicits donors and businesses to help with our Mom & Baby Care Drive, helps with the Gala in the Vineyard and much more. She also volunteers with the Gallatin Shalom Zone, Unlimited Potential, Sumner County NAACP, and the Sumner County Collaborative. United Way of Sumner County could not do the work we do without volunteers like Theresa!
