Lynn Johnson with school mascot

It had recently rained, and Lynn Johnson was navigating around a shallow, but muddy puddle of water on this chilly March morning helping unload a truck full of cardboard boxes at Long Hollow Gardens. The boxes were brimming with supplies needed for that night’s United Way of Sumner County Gala. Lynn along with her fellow Gala committee volunteers had agreed to meet early that day to transform the already-lovely greenhouse into an elegant dining room.

By the time guests began arriving, Lynn had transformed herself from volunteer dock worker to decked out Gala hostess ready to raise as much money as she could to help her neighbors in need.

Because Lynn believes in a level playing field – especially for children.

She is the owner of Primrose School of Gallatin and Primrose School of Hendersonville, accredited private preschools, intent on providing children with an educational foundation that leads to success in life.

But her interest in educating children extends beyond her businesses.

She supports United Way of Sumner County’s mission which includes helping fund educational programs that lead to academic success for all children in Sumner County.

Education is one of UWSC's four focus areas, the others being Rebuilding Lives, Health and Financial Stability. When we created Gala sponsorships to reflect those key areas, Primrose School of Hendersonville quickly stepped up to fund the Education sponsorship. We were grateful and overjoyed, but not really surprised because Lynn’s business has been among the top-level sponsors of the Gala for several years.

“I believe in what United Way does. It's a great team of people who are motivated by love of people and community and that's something that you can never go wrong investing in!” Lynn says.

During her 8 years volunteering for United Way of Sumner County, Lynn has served as a Board member, Gala Committee member and Allocations Committee member – all difficult and demanding areas of service.

She also, for several years, has supported our Winter Care Drive by allowing the school to help us collect gently used coats and new hats, socks and gloves for children in need. And, in the spring, she allows the school to serve as a collection site for diapers and personal care supplies during our Mom & Baby Care Drive.

After the drives, when we pick up those collection boxes, they also are brimming with donations for children.

Thank you, Lynn, for all you do for United Way and for the children of Sumner County.
