United Way volunteers are incredible people who give back to the community by using their time and talents to improve lives in Sumner County. One of those incredible people is Cheri Tatum. Before retiring in 2021, Cheri worked for 11 years at the Sumner County Election Commission. Prior to that, she was a journalist for about 20 years in Sumner County. During her career, she worked as a reporter and as an editor for various publications. Cheri worked at the Hendersonville Free Press, The Hendersonville Star News and the Gallatin News Examiner before going to work in county government. Cheri, who lives in Cottontown, has been volunteering with United Way of Sumner County for about one year, helping in the office with a variety of tasks. When she is not helping United Way, she also volunteers through First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville. “I believe in the mission of the United Way in helping people in all types of situations,’’ Cheri said. “It is fulfilling work.”
