Tory Daughrity supported the mission of United Way long before she began volunteering for United Way of Sumner County. It began in the Kentucky town where she grew up. “I worked with the United Way as a partner agency executive director in the community I grew up in. I was an executive director of the American Red Cross Chapter in Murray, Ky.,” Tory said. “Seeing the impact and the collective spirit of all partner agencies made me even more passionate about supporting the United Way.”
Even though she changed careers, Tory’s interest in supporting United Way stayed with her and continues in Tennessee. She began volunteering for United Way of Sumner County about a year ago while working at TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center where she assisted with various United Way drives including the Mom and Baby Care Drive where she collected diapers for babies and personal care items for young mothers. She also supported UWSC by attending our Community Impact Breakfast and our signature fundraising event, Gala United. Last May, she served on the United Way allocations panel – joining fellow volunteers in the difficult task of deciding how United Way distributes funding to local nonprofit agencies. In October, she volunteered at the United Way of Sumner County Fall Classic Golf Scramble, helping raise money by working at the putting green.
"I volunteer with the United Way because it allows me to make a tangible impact on the well-being of those I have the privilege to work with by supporting initiatives that address key social issues," Tory said. "It's an opportunity to give back and help create sustainable change for those who need it most. Seeing first-hand the impact as both an agency director and as a hospital partner, I know the importance of what the United Way does in the communities we serve."
Today, Tory is the director of Communications and Community Engagement at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, but she still makes time to help United Way of Sumner County and other local nonprofits. She serves on the Elevate50 Hendersonville board of directors, and the board of Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County.
