Ensuring individuals reach their full potential

Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success, but too many Sumner County residents face obstacles during their youth that result in challenges for the rest of their lives. United Way of Sumner County is working to eliminate those obstacles for today's children, while working to remedy issues created by previous challenges. 

Community Challenges

• Children who have not developed basic literacy skills by the time they enter kindergarten are three to four times more likely to drop out in later years.
• As a result, more than 10% of Sumner County residents over the age of 25 never finished high school.
• Many adults in our community struggle to read or do basic math at a functional level, making it difficult to find work.

Creating Positive Change

United Way of Sumner County is fighting to shift the odds so tomorrow’s leaders can build a better foundation today. With an approach to education that spans from cradle to career, we’re working to ensure every child gets a strong start in life, teenagers have the support and tools to learn and grow, and young adults thrive in the job market. We're able to do this with your help by bringing together the community and our public, private, and nonprofit sectors to work together for the benefit of all of us.
